We've now been home for 13 days. I can't believe Baby Violet is almost 2 weeks old! I'm finally getting an opportunity to blog about my beautiful new baby. I think I'm still a little in shock - every time I look at her I can't believe she's here.
First of all, I just want to quickly thank all of our friends and family for your continued help and support. You have made this transition into parenthood so much easier for us, by helping around the house, preparing meals, and offering helpful tips and love.
After 24 hours of labor, at 3:07 AM, Saturday, March 19th, 2011, we finally brought our beautiful little girl, Violet Nichole Tuton, into world. She was 8 pounds, 7.5 ounces, and 21 inches long. She is absolutely perfect. Our experience with our Family, Doula, and Midwife at home at the Birth Center was amazing. Most of the labor was actually quite easy to work through; we were calm and excited at the same time, there was a lot of joking and laughter. Pushing for 2 1/2 hours after 21 1/2 hours of labor was challenging, but I did it, and with no drugs. And it was worth every second. I really couldn't have asked for a better experience. Except maybe a wish for the next baby - that he/she is face back - making it a little easier on Mama. Check out some photos below.
We brought Violet home right away from the Birth Center about 3 hours after she delivered. My mom and sister stayed with us to watch Baby V while Scott and I got some rest. My Dad arrived some time after we fell asleep to take Bailey our Chocolate Lab for a much needed walk. After about 3 or 4 hours of sleep, my mom was waking us up for a feeding. Baby latched on right away, and has been chowing down ever since. While parenthood has been easy settling into, the breastfeeding was a little harder than I thought. I guess I just thought it would come a little more naturally, and it is in a way...I mean the desire and dedication, but the latch is a little tough at first. We're doing well, though, and Baby V is definitely gaining weight since my milk came in on Day 4. She has her first weigh in tomorrow.
More to come...
